HOW WILL YOUR WORK REBUILD THE WORLD?
I.
(This is a writing prompt. There should be three sections, but you need not provide an answer for each of the questions in each section.)
1. Imagine yourself as a city: the collections of thoughts, experiences, feelings that you carry with you – express this as a city. Describe this city – the architecture, the customs, the flora and fauna, the citizens. Walk us through it. Take a lead from Calvino if it helps.
2. Write the destruction of this city. How does it falter? Is it slow or sudden? Is its demise understood or a mystery? Raze it to the ground. Who suffers when it falls?
3. Write the aftermath. What emerges from this violence? Will the city be rebuilt, and if so, how is this accomplished? What persists and what is new? What has been lost forever?
This prompt was created by the poet, healer and teacher, Richard Froude.
